Born in Albany NY, Evangelist Tonya Baldwin is the eldest of five children born to Trustee Herman Thomas Sr. and Sister Lillia Mae (Jodi) Thomas. At an early age there was something very unique and special about her.
Being born and raised in a sanctified Apostolic home Tonya learned about God from birth. Little did she know that her Apostolic heritage was the seed that would sprout into a relationship and ministry that would take her to a place in God she never dreamed of. While receiving her Apostolic biblical training in all aspects of the church and being baptized in Jesus name she worked faithfully around the church.
She received her education in the Albany public schools where at the age of 10 she was tested and placed in the academically talented curriculum for gifted children. Tonya studied French for 9 year and while excelling in her studies, she became involved in many extra curriculum activites that demonstrated her many talents as she was promoted from grade to grade.
During high school she took an interest in politics' and was a very active member of the student government. In her senior year she was elected the President of the student government which worked with the schools administration to better assist with the education of the 3000 high school students at the school.
Tonya was active in sports and earned her varsity letter for track and field. She also played basketball, and field hockey. She was a active member on the board of the New York State Secondary School Student Organization (NYSSSSO), that represented the 1.8 million high school students in the state of New York. The Black Women's Association of Albany recognized her for her outstanding academic's and extra curriculum participation, and awarded her one of the many academic scholarships she received at her High school graduation.
Tonya couldn't wait to get out from under Mom's roof. Having been raised in a sanctified home she wanted to expand her wings, and do her thing. Tonya went away to Allegheny College for her undergraduate studies. But God had a different plan for her. At home for spring break in 1982, she attended a revival meeting where she met God herself and received the gift of the tongue talking Holy Ghost.
Back at school, Tonya continued with her studies and was elected to go and speak to the Congress of the United States on post secondary education for minorities. Upon completion of her studies she received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Liberal Arts with a emphasis in English and African American studies and a Bachelors of Science degree in Business. Her life long dream was to be a corporate lawyer. She was accepted into Harvard's School of Law, and was about to accept her admission to the law school when the Holy Ghost spoke to her and told her not to be a lawyer. Obeying the voice of God she declined her acceptance to attend Harvard.
Tonya moved to Detroit, MI and during her church convention in 1986 she met her future husband Jerry Baldwin Jr. of Kenosha, WI. They began to court and in November of 1987 they were married. Tonya is the proud mother of 6 children, Joriese, Jeriman, Jerron, Jourdan, Jacquelyn and Jason (deceased).
Running from the call of the ministry for years, Tonya could no longer deny hearing the voice of God. She accepted the call, and has been preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ for 16 years. Tonya is a license minister of the PCAF. She has served as the Wisconsin State Council of the PCAF secretary, and as the assistant Wisconsin State Youth President. She is co-founder of the Wisconsin State Mass choir of the PCAF, and a former program committee member for the Pastors Wifes auxiliary of the PCAF. Tonya is presently treasurer for the Children of the Priesthood auxiliary of the PCAF, and a former member of the National Youth Conference planning board of the PCAF. Evang. Baldwin is a professor of Church history and the Book of Acts for the Midwest Apostolic Bible college. She also teaches Church History for Moody Bible and is the assistant professor of Homiletics for the Midwest Apostolic Bible College. She teaches and trains beginning ministers in Homiletics at her home church. Tonya is an adjunct professor at the Lake Forest College, were she taught composition, American Literature and Shakespeares tragedies. Evang. Baldwin is a praise leader and a worshiper
In 2001, her husband became Pastor of the Bethlehem Temple Church of Kenosha, which elevated Tonya to the position of 1st Lady.
In December 2005 she received her Masters degree in English from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.. and is presently working on her doctorate in ministry.
God has anointed her to work the altar, not only praying with souls to receive the Holy Ghost, and to be delivered, but also with the anointed gift of healing. Many individuals from across the country have been healed physically and spiritually. Tonya takes no credit for herself but says, it's all about Jesus Christ and him crucified. Evang. Baldwin has traveled across the United States preaching and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. She has been invited to Africa / Ethiopia to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. Tonya also has been asked to be a guest lecturer at Jersualem University in Israel. She can often be heard saying "SWEET JESUS" and "I WILL BLESS THE LORD AT ALL TIMES AND HIS PRAISE'S SHALL CONTINUALLY BE IN MY MOUTH." She is a wife, mother, friend, 1st Lady, saint, teacher and evangelist. And to all of this, she says, TO GOD BE THE GLORY! To everyone she comes in contact with, she likes to leave this message, REMEMBER GOD!
